A Sparklie Christmas Message.... Part 1

Bonjour my blogging buddies!!!! O.K. I had this idea in my head to paint a pink glitter Eiffel Tower with white Swallows flying up & around all the windows to the last window forming a peace sign..This is my first attempt to paint a window but you get the idea.. Not the straightest but in person it looks really nice. I will take pictures this week of how it turned out lots of details & more sparkles added.. I am also taking pictures of my moms shop you will love it..

My Shabby Space... but not chic...

I am working on organizing & cleaning out my studio I started to work on it last Sunday but then decided to go swimming instead... This picture was taken at sunset to hide my mess. I don't know what it is but I have this block to get organized...It's not one of my strong points never has been... I do wish I was a little more anal ( oops) so I figured if I posted part of my home/studio work area it would put a little pressure on me & force me to get it together.... so will call these the before shots & will post the after soon I promise...

Here's a sweet idea for a card to give to a friend... I remember my grandmother always giving hankies as gifts... This one for you nanny....

My friend loves roses & lace so I used some pretty vintage wall paper I have been saving, use any color construction paper fold in half then decorate to your hearts desire... the vintage wall paper was glued to the front, lace buttons, rhinestones...whatever you have in your stash........ when she opens it up......
Oh how sweet a vintage hankie tucked underneath a wide piece of ribbon hot glue works wonders around here..... Don't forget to wrap it in a pretty ribbon with some little flower posies to finish it off....that was my little crafty project for you... xoxo laura

Today we had our first Sewing class taught by Melody ...she is such a beautiful lady, teacher & friend.. I think this is the beginning of many classes here in the Studio.. My Mosaic Kitchen Wall...

O.K. I have been a bad blogger not uploading my pictures for etsy BUT I have finally grouted my mosaic wall that took me months of hand cutting thousands of dishes...O.K. I know I am a little loony but this is something I wanted to do for a long time and am soooo happy it is done... and so are my kids... What's New Pussycat???

Greetings!!!!... had a moment to check in and say hi..I have had house guests in town for a week now.. busy running around entertaining, beaching, antiquing and just eating way too much food!!!. Verbena has been closed for vacation & will reopen on the 22nd of July. The upstairs Salon Studio classes start first week in August contact me for all the details. Verbena's new store hours are Wed-Sat 10:00-5:00 or by appt if requested. I also wanted to say Thank You to all the sweet gals who have supported & ordered Verbena's treasures through this blog & who have patiently been waiting for a website... I have decided to go for it & do an etsy site that will be available in a few days ( after my house guests leave) . I am truly a loyal fan of Rachel Ashwell & the Shabby Chic style. For some reason I have always been drawn to shades of white, faded elegance and all that yummy crumply stuff as far back as I can remember but when I first discovered the Shabby Chic style I was hooked. When I heard the exciting news that her new book will be out soon I had to share this with my blogging buddies... As we know Shabby Chic closed it's doors this past year and it has also been a rough year with Rachael loosing her Mum but as we know when God closes one door he opens another...you go Girl!!!! Livin The Dream

Hi my friends....Spend the Fourth Of July with my favorite person in the world... my brother Steven. ( my baby brother) As far back as I remember growing up, my little brother has always worked so hard & has had lots of great friends around him...and he still does... I remember the little skinny kid waking up at the crack of dawn to deliver his local newspaper route, oh how did he ever survive living with me & my mom... let me tell you life was not easy back then... well he turned out to be quite the man. I am so proud of the life he has created... a wonderful life filled with lots of love, a beautiful wife & baby, great friends, an spectacular Farm/home... I love you.. A living Doll...

Once upon a time there was a little girl who was given two specials gifts… the first gift came from up above….the best kind of gift…. and the second was a toy sewing machine. I am writing this is post to share what this little girl ( who is now a big girl) did with her gifts.. describing her work is like opening up a Grimm’s fairy tale book to me… magical… dreamy, original, sweet, sparkly, enchanted ,just pure loveliness.. Whimsy creations you see in your dreams….living in a world of too much hardship and over saturation of everything , it feels good to escape to the fantasy that’s brings us back to our childhood dreams and enthusiasm……. I hope to make your heart Smile as Jen has made mine…Jen is a living doll a true living doll of a person. I am in love with her fantasy inspired & whimsy creations & would like to share some of them with you. Hi my blogging buddies..I will be flying away from my nest & off to my favorite city San Francisco!!!! Just a quick trip to do some buying & selling... and attend my dad's art exhibit. back in the old days I lived in Half Moon Bay & Pacific Heights... The SUN is shinning!!!

This morning when the sun finally came out my son said good morning sun time to get back from your vacation!!!! God Bless my Dante!!!! Rain Rain Go Away!!!!

Hi My friends...Took this picture looking out my sun room window. But there is no sun. It has been raining nonstop for six day here in NW Central Florida...my outside bucket filled op over twenty inches!!! We know nature needs it's nourishment & all the flowers & trees will be bursting of color and fresh scents when it stops but we have had enough.....my home has a mote around it filled with water.. my garage ( antique mall) is flooded ... and as I write this it is getting dark again outside... here it comes... Your My Best Friend!!!

If there are angels on Earth Joyce is one of them...this is a pic taken on her 50th surprise birthday party a few weeks ago with my son Dante.... nine years ago when I moved to Ocala I was introduced to Joyce from my daughters art teacher.. she though we would connect and we did....she has been one of my best friends ever since.. she is a phenomenal mother of four great kids, happily married to the best husband & father ( my attorney & friend) she graduated & got her degree this year & became an ese teacher and is one of the most creative & giving ladies I know...last night while driving home with my family from a beautiful & fun Mother's Day weeks end at Amelia Island, I got a call that Joyce had a heart attack & was in the hospital... today she is having tests done.... please have her in your prayers today... she is one special lady & I love her very much... We ALL need to take care of ourselves today for tomorrow may not be here.. xoxo laura

My Grandmother to this day is my biggest inspiration... she has always given me the special love, lots & lots of laughs, spiritual Faith & strength I needed most growing up.... I miss her sooo much...My grandmother also know as Nanny Sarah was an orphan (she lost her mother at birth)... ... she would say to me... "I never had anyone to call mom...just remember you have your own life but only have ONE mother".... This has always stayed with me... so Thank you Nanny for having my special mom and giving me someone I can call mom ... Remember we only have One Mother in this life... let her know today you love her no matter what... she may not be here tomorrow....I love you Happy Mothers Day!!!! xoxoxo laura

You know when you laugh sooo hard you cry... I know that doesn't happen enough .. right well last night I was making a piece of jewelry and my son looked at this piece and said "mom what is that what are you making" well I looked at it with her crystal piece dangling and it came right to me... and said oh this is MRS. TINKLE... well Dante laughed so hard he couldn't stop... his laugh had me laughing and we couldn't stop saying MRS TINKLE... anyway here she is ... Frozen Charlotte's Great Aunt... made of hand painted porcelain beads, she spins & turns, back detail is just a cute as the front....button detail & rhinestone topper as her hat... her dangling vintage chandelier crystal is what gave her her name... we added a pink tulle scarf and may ad a tutu she hangs from a piece of pink silk cord.... anyway have a laugh I know you need one... I know my sense of humor can be odd... sometimes you just have to have a good laugh!!!!! There might be more of MRS TINKLE....let me know what you think!!!

GREETINGS FROM VERBENA'S NEST!!!

Bonjour my feather friends... ... Verbena downtown Ocala took a little break from her nest & is now opened. If there is such a thing as Bloggers block I think I had it... I am back now & will share what is happening....As some of you may know I have expanded my little space now & occupy the lobby of the Historic Marion Block Building.... we have all new HANDMADE treasures.... jewelry.... soap...art...clothing....accessories... candles like no other and some surprise products we are working on!!! We are also getting Verbena's Salon upstairs ready .... will be complete in a few weeks... the response has been very positive we would love to here from youl!!!! Contact me for details... I had a camera problem & am taking these picture with a broken one where I am pulling the lens out' I will get my new part this week.... anyway I just wanted to say hi.. Like mother like son?

My son Dante is just like his mother LOVES anything vintage, loves to hunt for great old finds and loves to set up his collection of old cars, buses ( he has a collection of old school buses over 500 of them) here he is on Saturday on the sidewalk waiting for his first customer.... Everyone here in Ocala knows & loves Dante... he is one special boy!!!! I do like to educate those who are not familiar with my sons syndrome... Prader Willi Syndrome..www.pwsausa.org I am sooo blessed to have him in my life... his dream is to own a dairy farm one day... oh and have a school bus filled with antiques to ride around and sell.. I will be his assistant.

ROOM TO GROW....

O.K. so what have I been up to lately... well being a mom... we know how busy that job is.. late nights around here.. I have been painting, organizing, making custom orders & refreshing my home studio.. I will post pictures when it is complete.. My kitchen is almost finished and I found the best Hungarian handy man who has helped me beyond words!!! The good news.. Verbena will be expanding with more room and will reopen after spring break with a new look & more space.. my mom who had the room cross from me is moving into larger space around the corner ( Mademoiselle Edie Gourmet) she will continue with her Charcutarie, cheese & chocolate shop and will be adding garden & antiques. I will be keeping my current space and taking over her old space in the Marion Block Building. Now I will have the room needed to spread my wings... Also my studio upstairs from the store we will be introducing ....Verbena's Salon....(A salon is a gathering of stimulating people of quality under the roof of an inspiring hostess or host, partly to amuse one another and partly to refine their taste and increase their knowledge through conversation and readings, often consciously following Horace's definition of the aims of poetry, "either to please or to educate" ("aut delectare aut prodesse est"). The salons, commonly associated with French literary and philosophical salons of the 17th century and 18th century, were carried on until quite recently in urban settings among like-minded people of a 'set': many 20th-century salons could be instanced.) I feel there is a need for a place where the younger girls can go, get creative & learn some of the exciting new & old crafts out there. Also a mom of a Special needs child I will offer creative classes for some of my sons classmates and their friends. I have been wanting to do this for a very long time and it is finally happening...a special place created to gather kindred spirits wanting to learn or teach a new craft, some of the classes we will offer are what we call our special project classes teaching sewing for the young girls or their moms, jewelry making the old fashioned way, painting , knitting & crocheting, piquette mosaic art, etc... so this is what I have been up to.. it will be a challenge but my heart is in it and have the support & help from some special & talanted friends who will be a part of this journey.. my sign up sheet is growing long.. so here it goes. Painted dresser...I actually just sold a similar piece... When my son was born fourteen years ago, I got into paining my old furniture for his room and then started to paint & sell pieces for customers ....there are so many pretty colors available... love this green color. I just painted an old armoir that was olive green a pretty shade of aqua with a brown glaze over it...

Exciting News...in the studio!!!!

Congratulations to the sweet gals who will be getting my Valentine's Day giveaways!!! I am excited to send some treasures you way!!! I also wanted to say.. God is so good this past week many exciting things have happened... my life has always been feast or famine.l.. I think it's time for a feast yes!!!! In the decorating dept...(One of my biggest passions) a New Year always motivates me to reorganize, redecorate & refresh everything around me. A friend of mine once said when looking at all her stuff I don't own this ... it owns me... and sometimes I feel that way. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with everything I just wish I could do two things ... one be like I Dream of Jeanie nod my head & it's all in order or hire some one like Extreme Makeover to come in and just tear all this down and make everything perfect... but as we know life doesn't work that way so for now I just have to make the best of what I have...little old me... to hammer , drill & haul stuff... my mission is to have less...have a cleaner look... but still be loyal to my Shabby Chic style of decorating.. Take a look at this home I am posting... I am totally in love with it!!! It still has that Shabby Chic Romantic feel but is cleaner more modern.... I just love it!!! I don't know what style to call it. Does anyone have a name? What is your style of decorating? I would love to know.. Lets give this look a new name I say this is the new look for me !!! Anyone who knows my mom just Loves her ( including me) she has such great energy... she is very warm, funny, witty and extremely talented... she has alway been a frustrated decorator ( like me) as far as I can remember.. always moving around furniture, redecorating and collecting hundreds of books... anyway I thought it would be fun to see what she has created as I know we can never get enough of decorating pictures... Thoughts & Prayers for The Travolta's

To me there is nothing more heart wrenching & painful as the loss of your child or anyones child...It really effects me to think of what these parents go through... No words can express how I feel...My heart, my thoughts & my prayers goes out to my neighbors John & Kelly Travolta here in Ocala. I also pray for God to protect & keep all of our children safe... love & cherish each & every moment you have together. xooxxo Laura

I loved this shop... itself feels like something straight out of Amelie; tiffany blue trim, old timely-glass cases filled with delicate chocolates and other tasty confections.

There's also an adorable tea shop in the back that serves the most delicious hot chocolate, crepes and tea sandwiches.

My mom ( Edie Gourmet) has one amazing shop specializing in Chocolate, cheese & truffles so I am alway inspired by the presence of fine foods created in beautiful spaces This shop is a treasure... her are some picture I took to share with you... mmmmmm xooxo Laura

Last night the Historic Society of Downtown Ocala gathered around the Downtown & drove around to take notes & vote on the best business windows & entrances decorated for the Holidays.. as I was taking a picture of Verbena's Nested Treasure's window I created for the Holidays... I dropped my camera... not working... dead... bye bye...Santa needs to get me a new one~~~~ xoxoxo laura

TODAY UPDATE!!!! guess what??? the Historic Society arived today with a big sign & red ribbon!!!! I won First Place... I was so surprised...never did I think I would get that... what an honor.. A lot on my mind...lately

Running the store some days can be very challenging especially when you are helping three customers at the same time ( in a very small space) and the the poor crazy homeless lady comes in accusing me of selling off her $ 145.00 Bari j bag she told me to hold?, I tried to calm her down even gave her a bar of French soap.. ( she was offended)....these long work days, trying to run a household, kids, school, dogs, customers, custom work, late nights sewing, making jewelry, juggling money, some days I ask myself what am I doing... should I get a real job... no because there aren't any out there... at my age being a single mom trying to survive does put a lot on my mind...but I guess I am following my heart & doing what I love.. Is anyone feeling like they have a lot on their mind lately?? fell free to share & lighten your load..I call them blog vents we all need one once in a while.. ..xoxox Laura

Churches to me are the most beautiful works of art... I am mesmerised by the architecture and miraculous beauty of these sacred buildings.. Many years ago while visiting Barcelona I was very fortunate to have seen the early development & building of this fascinating Church

I still love the idea of an upholstered headboard.. It's like an accessory item for the bedroom... a necklace for your bed...loving just beautiful white linens on the bed you can change you head board according to the seasons, your mood or a just great inexpensive way to update your bed.. Share some ideas you may have on headboards you love. P.S. I have & made myself a white linen covered headboard in my Bedroom..love it.

My Dad Robert Venosa...Love him sooo much

One of the best days visiting California was driving up the cost ( listening to Adele purchased at Gianetti Home I might add) going to see my father Robert Venosa & his beautiful wife Martina Hoffman. I am very very proud of my dad.. check out his work he is a world known visionary artist www.venosa.com as well as his wife www.martinahoffman.com you will be amazed.
I will never forget this day I was so happy being with them. I took a quiet walk along the beach by myself, collected rocks for my children, stopped at a local fish market located right off the beach.. we had an incredible dinner... a time I will cherish...life seems to be going faster these days..
