Perch.. my little cottage/studio

Hi blogging Friends we are making some progress here...I have been pulling together some of my favorite old finds & having fun putting at all together creating my cottage/studio space.

I have named her Perch. She will be a gathering place where friends will visit, enjoy the beautiful scenery here at the farm, sit back, relax on the porch, make some pottery, sew together, style a photo shoot or spend the night in this sweet little cottage studio.

My little porch filed with some of my favorite flea finds that I have collected over the years.

some artwork up above & my special angel to remind us to look up & trust.

Dante's cow..he is waiting for me to plant a garden of flowers..soon I keep telling him..soon. Maybe when you come visit you can help?

my favorite place to rest & be alone...not very often.. but when I do the energy in here is very serene & peaceful.

Laura's Chicken Soup for your soul

Hello out there in blogland...is any one there? I have been so out of touch from blogging but think it's time to share something special & delicious with you. The one thing I love to do is cook. Family members close friends know have been cooking forever. I can spend all day in the kitchen especially this time of year.

If you want to make a delicious & healthy pot of Chicken soup try this. It's a little work but you will love the way it comes out.

Nothing like a steamy pot of home made soup when the air is crisp...chicken soup cooking in the house makes the house smells so good. I hope this is easy to understand & you give it a try...miss you all I will be back with update next week on the studio/playhouse & my store redo.

I have been out of touch but this crab is slowly coming out of her shell.

nothing like the real thing!

my antique ginger jar where I store my garlic

garlic to ward off evil spirits

be sure to skim off that fat & scum

this comes in handy when I skim off the bad stuff

root vegetables are in season now..love them

celery leave the leaves

turnip

parsnips

be sure to add the leaves from the celery

chopped veggies for your soup

fresh dill

smells so good!

Laura's Chicken Soup for your soul recipe

one nice size whole organic chicken
carrots-4 chopped
one large vidalia onion ( I like the sweetness of these)
parsnips-2 chopped
turnips-2 chopped
celery-4stalks chopped with leaves love the leaves

garlic- 5cloves smashed & chopped
fresh dill
sea salt pepper to taste
water ( I buy a gallon of spring water) or water of your choice.

clean chicken in fresh cold water using kosher or sea salt
place in large soup pot
remove skin from large onion put in pot
fill with water to cover the chicken
partially cover on medium heat
for about an hour
IMPORTANT be sure to skim off the scum as chicken cooks

as chicken is cooking, I usually cut up all the veggies, place in a separate bowl...set aside
when chicken is done turn off heat, remove onion put in bowl to cool off
put cover back on pot & let the chicken sit for about a half an hour or more.

remove chicken a little hard to do as it will be cooked be careful not to get any bones in the pot I usually use to big serving spoons put chicken in a bowl & let cool off.

in the meantime check again to be sure all scum & grease is skimmed off the soup.

turn heat on stove back to med
slice up that onion that has been cooling put in soup pot
put all chopped veggies in soup pot
remove skin from chicken & pull off & break up nice bite size pieces of meat as much as you like but not too much put in soup pot

REMEMBER you will have a lot of chicken left I usually make chicken salad or wrap up what I do not use for another meal. I usually freeze a few containers.

o.k. hope you are still with me

partially cover & simmer for about half hour be sure to stir, check & skim off any addition fat.

DILL I put in last I love dill chop a big hand full & throw in some more if you like.
turn off heat keep cover on for another half hour.
then what I do I take about three or four big scoops from my laded right from the pot & puree it in my blender not not too much & put it back in the pot...stir it up.
salt & pepper to taste.

It really is delicious... a few things you can add
little Italian pastas, orzo or noodles
sometimes I chop up kale & add it to give us some extra iron.

always love to sprinkle Italian cheese

My little soulfull nest..

As they say "when it rains it pours" not to go into to all the details..these past few months have been life changing for me. A few months ago I started to built a little studio here on the farm. just as construction was halfway there...life took an unexpected turn...my life changed...my dear father passed away...my precious son had to be admitted into the hospital to treat his Prader Willi & have ear surgery.. so my little soul full nest had to wait for me to return. Now I am back & am very grateful I have this special little place to retreat to. It's like a fresh start, a place to meditate, create, work on my new art & find little peace. Perfect timing I say! I have a way to go to get it in order & make it my soulful little nest...here are some pics I took this morning as some of you have been asking me what happened to that little studio..

grass to grow, flowers to plant..food for my soul here

still have to remove the stickers on the windows & sweep the sand from a storm while I was away.

it's been a tough journey but in my heart I know my new path will give me a fresh start to find some peace, work on my art & share a special space with loved ones. please stop back soon to see our little soulful nest. xo Laura

Dear Friends and Community,

...A great soul has completed his earthly journey and graduated to the next level.

The great Venosa left his body on Tuesday August 9, 2011 at 6:56 PM.

His transition was graceful and accomplished in the same composed and calm manner that he exuded throughout his life.

I feel honored to have been able to accompany him to the gate, having walked 30 beautiful years together in this life.

Robert had a long and brave healing journey with cancer and showed incredible strength on this path as well as tremendous courage in facing this great dragon.

He believed in the natural healing ability of the human body and proved the doctors wrong time and again, who only gave him a few month’s to live upon his diagnosis over eight years ago.

He was a powerful human being. Together he and I, held the piece of his physical struggle safely tucked away from the eyes of the world like a precious pearl.

It is with great sadness that I’m sharing this news today but also with

deep gratitude, for his magical and special life; fully lived.

Even in death he gave those surrounding him a powerful initiation into the scared mysteries of the unknown.

We will carry him in our hearts forever, remembering the light he shone on so many. He so appreciated the light that others shone upon him.

CLEANING YOUR PALLET.

As you know I am working on the "little house on the farm" or studio I should say. I have not named her yet. Have some thoughts..anyway a few years back I saw a great idea in a little shop in in Saint Augustine..they had set up in the middle of the store three tall tables made out of old wooden pallets. painted in muted shades with touches of vintage wallpaper glued on each slate, slightly hanging off , that was it for me it was love at first site for me...or love at first bite.. right we are talking about pallets here.........................this is when my love affair with pallets started...oh and crates that's another post.

Being on a budget brings out the most creative resources in one...like finding a Hugh stack of pallets down back on the farm.

mmmmm made me think.. and then with the Internet anything is possible...see what I mean..

I think my studio will have this feel. I am loving all white with pops of my bohemian colors..as much as I love the French Nordic look that is very popular at this time & is timeless...I will keep that for my bedroom.

all creative and arty things come in all colors shapes & sizes..my colors will change as time goes on..what are your colors?

this is my absolute favorite..love the sea green painted pallets mixed with the white & linen colors..my favorite...and branches to make a tent under your special resting space!!!!

I have this little dish I purchased in an antique mall that has a hand painted picture of a sweet little bird it says "Look up & trust" & I do...I prayed for a space of my own to work & create..Thoughts, prayers, meditation definitely manifests into what you dream...

I love this porch. I found it on the web..sharing a inspiring photo..I love ticking, clotheslines & old wicker..& would love to sit here with some ice tea & dream with you.

We just had a crazy rain storm..I took these pictures right before it started...take a peek I will keep up up to date. Next week I will be painting like a mad woman....here is to all your dreams...

looking up this is a very old chandelier I have had for years. It is big & will hang on the little front porch.

studio progress...

Well just a little as we have been getting a lot of rain.

The windows above

I purchased last week for the studio. They came out of an old Church here in Florida.. I was so excited as I wanted to put them somehow high up atop . but so far does not look like they will work. Maybe I can hang them?

rainy Friday..all day..

But this afternoon the sun came out & we were able to get part of the roof up! There will be a tin roof. The floor will be concrete I am looking into how to stain or do something to the floor. Everything will be painted white I think. I am open for suggestions always. Keep in mind working with material avail. here on the farm.. some leftovers are just fine with me. I love leftovers. keep you posted as we progress.
I think I will give her a name.. any thoughts?

My Sacred Little Space...

Every creative soul needs a sacred space where they can go. my sacred spaces have always been my garage that I cluttered & messed up , ... my old living room ( seen here on my side bar)..living here on the farm I created a small studio space in the sitting area in my bedroom.. oh bad fueg shui!!! This creative mess has taken over that area & now most of my kitchen Island.. dining room...I can no longer work this way...So after many nights praying for finding a small shed to put all this stuff in the man upstairs answered my prayers... we are building a real studio.. one that hopefully will not blow away..working with materials that are available here on the farm & some salvaged I am sharing & will keep you up to date as my sacred space progresses...who knows I might just move in!

Hello my drear friends out there...as most of you who check in to our Facebook group know these past few months I have been busy working getting ready for the nada event... the day I was scheduled to leave for my adventurous trip.. my precious mom Edie decided to have a heart attack... I will never forget watching her frightened face behind the ambulance glass window... what a week it has been.. but thank God she is o.k. I decided not to attend the event & stay here on the home front....I cried my eyes out last week worried about my mom.. but know it is not her time & Gods plan in the works.

I have decided to redo my shop...& now fill it with all the new treasures that did not make it to the show...come visit I will be in all next week 10-3 or by app. xo Laura

Bonjour all you Romantic Prarie Girls... I finally got my copy of Fif's book... did you get your copy? Amazon has been taking longer then expected so I made a trip to my local Barnes & Noble well I made skid marks getting there...It is truly one of my favorite Home books & more.

As you know any thing Fifi's touches ( besides our hearts) is pure Heaven. I love this book. I love the breathtaking photos, the message it gives & the pure beauty all the homes share with us. Be sure to get your copy you will be very very inspired!

What's bloomin!

My blog pictures go from a blanket of snowfall to lavender blooms & sunshine... looks like Spring is right around the corner well in this neck of the woods it feels like summer already. I thought this picture ( taken from Elle magazine) would inspire us to get our outside patios & porches dressed up & in bloom for a beautiful season ahead. I know we are all ready for it. Keeping busy here still in a funk but trying to plant some new seeds & see what grows.

Hi blogging buddies & dear friends from afar. I have not been into blogging like I use to & lately I am still in a funk. Don't know what is going on. I have had this sinus/head thing that will not go away. Must be my body telling me something. Some times for some of us I guess our hearts & bones just need a break from the computer world . Lately all I have been doing is lots of cooking & just taking care of the home front.
For my friends who have asked for me to share some pictures from my trip here they are.
This is a picture taken in Longmont Colorado 20 mins away from my dads home.. Having some time to myself on Sunday I decided to call K.C. Willis to say hi & see if she had any workshops going on.....a book making class....and it turned out to be the most perfect day. There is something very special about driving on a quiet Sunday morning ( when no one is on the road) in the snowfall knowing you are going to a magical place where you can create all day.
K.C. Willis is not only a true & original artist but has that special kindness & giving heart you can feel when you are around her. Anyone who has taken her workshop knows just what I mean. You must try to make a visit out West one day & treat your self to take a workshop. I will be gone for a few weeks...traveling...a far from the Sunshine state.... high on a mountain top...It's a bit of a sad time for me but I will keep my chin up & know that everything will be o.k & the Sun will shine again.

Lovely lavender Verbena treats..

Ok here it is.....I have been getting requests for this recipe...you can also substitute with gluten free flour & xylitol a great & healthy sugar subsitute.

ingredients

2 T dried fresh lavender

1/4 T baking power

1/4 T salt

13/4 cups of flour

2/4 cups of sugar ( also xylitol great sugar substitute)

2 T grated lemon zest

2T juice of 1-2 lemons

1 1/2 sticks of unsalted butter cut in cubes

1 egg yoke

1/2 T Vanilla extract

OK get ready...combine in a food processer

sugar, lemon zest & lavender until mixed well. ( thirty seconds)

whisk dry ingredients together

flour, baking power & salt

add to sugar mixture

add butter cubes on top of mix pulse about 15 1 sec pulses will look like cornmeal

in a separate bowl whisk egg yoke, lemon juice & vanilla pour in mix

pulse about 10 seconds until it forms into a dough ball.

remove & shape into a cylinder 12" long 1/1/2 in in diameter

chill the dough untill firm ( 45 in frezer) 2 hours in fridge

preheat oven to 375

MUST line a baking sheet with parchment paper

slice about 3/8 thick not to thin or will burn

cook about ten min

edges will lightly brown

be sure to turn halfway when cooking.

remove cool on rack

My favorite part is packaging them. Do your thing.

I usually stack them in clear bags & throw a pinch of the lavender on top, tie kitchen twine, a handmade tag. Yum!!!

Nice to give as a gift with a fresh buch of lavender.

I also make a rosemary version.. let me know how it turns out.

This one I just finished making for a special lady who is a both & Dr & Carmalite. little details...

We are starting to paint this weekend....lots of space the building is old & used to be an pharmacy still has the old apothecary shelves built in the wall.

Lady Madonna simply at her best....maybe it is my Catholic school upbringing...or spending weekends playing & hiding under my Nanny Sarah's bedroom alter..I have always been drawn to the beauty & spiritual feelings I get with the Blessed Mother/Madonna. You do not have to be Catholic to love her.
A while back when picking up my daughter from her friends home, I was invited to step inside.. and when I looked up in the entrance way.. my heart skipped a beat... my word I ran back in my car to get my camera... these are amazing original works of art from Venezuela.
I have been busy here sewing my Sacred Treasure sacks for the holidays so maybe I have Madonna dancing around in my head.

Come on in.. take a seat...I will make you a cup of tea or maybe some fresh pressed coffee? I really would if you were here. This is what I love about blogging.. sharing my thoughts, pictures & venting whatever I want to share with you all. This post is about being a Frustrated Decorator.. I started a new group on FB that I think will be fun & will be starting a new blog as well. My mission is too creatively connect those who share the same passion but need help, have questions & love to look at pictures & post ideas...we will have interesting & talented designers who Will participate in this Group. Have a decorating dilemma you will be able to come over to The Frustrated Decorator FB page post a before picture & turn your decorating frustrations into decorating sensations. And much more. I find there is so much craftiness out there maybe a little too much for me at this time... I do love it all but my first & favorite passion is decorating. Don't you just love more then anything looking at home decorating magazine pictures, beautiful blogs & just shopping for great pieces. When ever I see a beautiful room on a blog or in a magazine I just feel so indescribable.. do you know what I mean? That feeling of excitement that makes you want to get up stand back in your romm & say mmmm I can make this room look better or mmmm again now where are those cardboard pieces so I can start moving stuff around. (No man here just cardboard) I really do get very inspired by it all. I think most of us have the same passion. I know you do. I love all the fresh new designs being shown... the Swedish rooms , farm houses, modernness, French Elegance... I love it all.. I don't know how to describe my style my dear friend Dore who I adore calls it Gypsy Brocante villa chic... yea that's me with a touch of the monastery look? Is there such a thing? The Frustrated Decorator will be a fun group to share & creatively connect with others . It's great on FB you can post a picture of a room ,comment & you never know who will stop by & give you great tips. So relax & take a peek at some of the things I have done to my home...I have a long way to go.. but that's all the fun... it never ends for us Frustrated Decorators.

A great find for the week. I picked this up at a local thrift shop for $20.00 it's painted distressed & has a washed burlap coffee sack bag as a seat.
a peek into our music/reading room my design dilemma with such high ceilings is what to do over my book case so I layered old picture frames on the side of a big old picture I have had for years. This is where The Frustrated Decorator Group will come in handy.

Just a random shot of my dining area not together this was the day before Thanksgiving this is behind the cozy sitting area you will see below. The gold curtains were here so I am working with them. I think I might have a chair addiction... do you.. way too many, different kinds I would get rids of some of them maybe just keep & paint my old Windsors... Paint Them?
just a small gathering of some bottles & placed on my vintage wooden cake stand. Yes that is a pumpkin top I placed on top of the old milk bottle. My sweet & beautiful friend Tracie makes beautiful things just like her. Her shell top bottle filled with stones & sand from France is nestled with some of my bottles that I collect. They are all over my home.
this is the after the bottom picture was the before sorry my dyslexia is kicking in. added a larger rug, the table is the bottom of an old stove. Placed a tray on top ( for now) & cover it with an old piece of linen...moved the chairs together added some pillows & oh the wine.. I think a glass is good for your creative juices.
I posted the above Before picture on FB last night needing a decorating fix. So after I pulled in some of my porch furniture wanting to create a cozy sitting area in my kitchen asking for some advise on fb one cool lady Deb Kennedy (do you know her you should she is amazing) commented & gave me some great tips, I started moving furniture around retaking pictures & posting the afters.
My mom is the creative genius behind designing the bones to this beautiful house. I will be featuring her fabulous home as my first post on the new blog The Frustrated Decorator. The Mexican octagon shaped pavers are my favorite... except when I am standing on them for hours cooing or cleaning.
As you enter the main room to your left I placed my old bench that was given to me as a gift from a customer as a thank you...it's got that perfect patina shade of greys.
My decorating dilemma was what to put above the bench. I wanted something different maybe architectural... a giant clock....didn't have any of that here so working with what I have & looking around my stash this is what I came up with.

The frustrated decorator at work late at night....... my favorite old French Shutters that's it! I also added my carved putti above I placed one of my birds nests on top. Do they look crooked? Should l I add some of my signature clay big rosaries on the shutters maybe too much this is where i get frustrated. I think I like it. What do you think? Well it's me.. That Gypsy Village chick oh I mean The Frustrated Decorator!

Verbena bird here... do you know what time it is? I think it is the time of the year when we start to get in the spirit.. I am starting to get that sparklie feeling inside. Or maybe it's the dust from the glitter ornaments I am working on for the store?

This is a short post as I am working nights around here getting orders out & getting ready for this weekends Art festival & Bridal show. Sooo I am just sending out a quick shout out to say get in the spirit, feel sparklie & think about planning on doing something nice this holiday season for those struggling & doing without. It's really hitting home to me as I see so many of my neighbors loosing their homes. so many without jobs too many struggling with families to feed here in THIS country. My sparklie little birdie has a message from the heart...

Hi blogging friends I really have been out of touch from the world of blogging and all that digital stuff. For some reason in all my many moves this ones was & still is the hardest. Are you an accumulator? Do you save way too much stuff? Are you a sentimental collector like me well when it is time to clean house & move your life it is stressful.. for me it has been overwhelming but it is great to get rid off all the stuff... what is that stuff anyway? I am in my new home here on the farm & have a way to go getting it together. I am posting some pictures for you to see some of the "things" I have kept & love.. Life is changing I love when this happens....it's like a rebirth for me... I will be in touch many good things happening... Love to hear from you. My favorite dresser I have had for many many years... I sold most of my furniture during my move but this one I will not let go of... for now

Change is in the air...

Verbena Girl here....do you feel it something is in the air.. it's starting to feel a bit like Autumn around here my favorite time of year. There is always something magical about this time of year.. and many changes usually happen to me at this time... and they are..... we are moving our nest (home) to the family farm and you know what that means... very busy packing my little element like a gypsy so each morning after I make the school runs I am getting my workout loading & moving stuff to the farm. I am trying to make this a time in my life to purge all my stuff & try to simplify. I have been trying to do this my entire life it seems. If you live in the area I will be planning a Hugh moving sale sometime in October. I will take lots of pictures & fill you in with my progress. I will be sad to leave my special tree house behind but I know it is time for a big change. I am blessed to have this beautiful empty house on the farm waiting for us.

Displaying Sweet & Special Treasures

I wanted to share an idea I love & have in my home... well lately my home is upside down as I am getting ready to move to my family's empty farmhouse... That's another post... anyway as I was removing some of my pictures off the walls I though oh this might be an idea I can share. I love to cook & have many old recipes This is a sweet idea you can do with an old family recipe or make one look old. I love the idea of framing recipes, letters, old books cards etc...
Paper coking stains show a time when this yummy recipe maybe stuck to grandmas hand many times or maybe reminds me of the days I baked with my grandmother & licked the spoon from her cookie batch. Still do! If you have an old family recipe this is a nice way to display & share it on your kitchen wall. It makes a beautiful & thoughtful gift to a friend or family member.
adding pretty lace, old scrumpled old flowers & leaves are a favorite touch we love... or maybe you have another idea.
An old petite book of The Story Of Macbeth my mom had framed many years ago she gave it to me as a gift. This is something I have had for a long time & treasure.

Some ideas can be a child's favorite book growing up, an old poetry book or your tattered school book I love the idea of framing them. How about you. The End xoxoxo Laura

Painting the nest.

Well I finally cleaned up, scraped & got heat stroke removing the Pink Glitter Eiffel Tower & birdies I painted on my windows a while back. You know how it is.... you wake up one day & decide it's time for a change! Maybe it's the old age creeping in but I am into less clutter & a cleaner space around me. Using my new Verbena nested treasure logo I had it enlarged taped it on the inside of my window & with my craft paint went to work. I am in the process of making new pique assitte flower pots with a cool stain & will retake pictures when the front is complete. So for now to keep you posted here it is... it's not perfect but the price is right & my arms got a little work out.
Gone but not forgotten....Yes this is a Pink Eiffel Tower you are seeing...My ideas are endless & one day I though why not paint a pink Glitter Eiffel Tower on my left window.. a little wonky but it stopped a lot of traffic... and let me tell you there is NO traffic in Ocala.
second window I painted a birdie with pearl swags & birdie peace sign also added my version of whimsy sacred hearts... what got into me that day! Life of a hopless Retailer.

How do you like your eggs? Sunny side up, over easy, scrambled, poached, hard boiled, am I forgetting anything....well after making eggs in this house I save my cartons... and save...waiting to put them to good use...until recently I had an idea on what to do with them....

Shell Of The Ball

Ok all you shell lovers... here is another shell creation & fun project you can do. I have several of these SEA GODDESS NYMPHS ( I call them) around my home. They look really pretty in the bathroom. My dear friend Kim gave me this statue & said do something with her.. so what does any girl with 500 pounds of shells around her home do.. glue gun the shells on that girl! By adding a touch of pearls, jewels, lavender flowers, ( she loves that) and making a pretty cross necklace out of old pearls is such a great way to alter a bust. Funny her shell hair she reminds me of me when I use to wear those spongy PINK rollers as a kid... remember those? What do you think.. Shell of the Ball? Welcome to my creative nest. I am very fortunate to have such a grand space in my home. This is the upstairs of my house. I converted our upstairs sun room into the family/living space & made my old living room my studio. I have lots of sunlight, large windows and overlook lots of old mossy oak trees, sky oh my feathered friends are everywhere... it truly is Heaven here.. all I need is the ocean. To be honest I find myself creating most of the time on my old kitchen farm table even with all this space one table is enough for me ...this is where I find my inner peace. xoxoxo Laura

I use the top of my long mantel to hold some of my dishes before they get broken ( the other hundreds are in my garage)

nests are everywhere they store & hold all my ribbons, roses & cards
some of my handmade jewelry, mosaic bird bowls just hanging around a beautiful cage lady my mom gave me for my birthday years ago.

I collect vintage birds, fabrics, nests, old vintage hats, dishes, bottles& lots of ribbons. Well just about everything old & romantic.

made from an old window I have had this cabinet for about seventeen years. I have a thing for old cabinets. I store some of my favorite antique fabrics here & my old tins.
I love my very long cabinet I had made out of old windows from a farm house here in Ocala I use this to store ribbons, boxes, fabric, buttons .. lots & lots of goodies.

As the saying goes you can take the girl out of the city but can't take the city outta the girl... well as much as I do miss the city life I think I am a Country girl at heart. Is there a name for us city girls now planted in the middle of Farm Country? If you think of one let me know. When it rains I love the smell of dirt. When I see lots of green I feel at peace. When I hear the birds sing, I sing with them. I get excited when I drive to my step dads farm with the kids and gather fresh eggs. I seem to be drawn these days to planting lots of organic veggies, reading & trying to learn more ways to recycle my life, simplifying, decluttering my shabby mess & eating more like a rabbit? Well maybe it is the old age kicking in or maybe it's time for me & my family to live a simpler life. Working on it.

John Lennon once said " life is what happens while you are busy making other plans" and life has been busy here! As the school year is ending there are many parties, sleepovers & events, so please excuse me as I have been off the computer for a bit.. I am back to the swing of things & have been uploading jewelry & accessories to get the website going. This pictured Clay Rosary is something I personally own & have been searching for quite some time & am so excited that it has found its way to us & will be available on Verbena's online boutique. This over sized special Rosary measures 72 inches around is handmade out of natural colored clay & strung together beautifully. I love to display mine on my Santos..You can hang it on your bed frame, mirror or just place it on top of a stack of old books. Usually I do not keep up with the trends I just do what I love & try to translate designs & product back to my store always with my customer in mind... Inspiration comes from many places as we know this one started a few years back while searching on line, a stumbled across I fell in love with this laundry bad called the Laundry Devil I think it was the original ruffle bag & I thought how pretty I need to do some ruffles for the shoppe... never did...then my daughter came home a few weeks ago with a ruffled top from Hollister.. ruffles started appearing everywhere... facebook, blogland even in my dreams... then to my surprise my magic sewing fairy appeared and made me the most amazing ruffled tops & bags for the store.... These are our own special versions..many available shapes, sizes with unusual embellishments.. colors Natural my favorite, palest Pink, tea stain & seafoam for your beachy days..avail for purchase on new website next week or contact me for a quick fix.
To be a little different & give these bags & tops our Verbena touch, We have added crocheted details, ribbons, buttons & vintage lace & natural elements to each one. Each one is one of a kind. They are all very soft. The linings are made from super soft & yummy printed vintage & recycled fabrics.. this one I pictured has a bucket style arm strap.... Love this style.. Retails are $55.00 for now. We do have smaller versions on the cutting table. They will be avail on line next week if they last in the store or contact me for a quick fix. O.K. my feathered friends.. remember out favorite nest the one I discovered In Amelia Island (how can you forget) scroll down if you are visiting for the first time a must see...well we had another family trip this weekend & I went back to that Sweet Salvaged house.. but no one was in the nest.... however I did find out the lady who's name I think is Carol has a store in Ga.. so what does a loyal Junker/blogger do... get in the car & leave skid marks & find that place! Fast...that's just what we did while the X husband took the kids to the beach..my mom, step dad & I took a ride into Ga.. Yes you got it, I talked them into driving up to Ga.. and let me tell you it was worth the drive...I wish I had more time to write but I will just get to the point.. After searching up & down the road we finally found it! The place was closed & it looked as if no one has been there for quite some time I think it's because Carol is moving her shop to her Home.. remember the back of her house I guess all this is going there.... so from My Nest to Yours... ENJOY this Feathered Nest I am in love with & think you will too!!!

A short & sweet post from lovely Maddie the bunny ( made by the talanted Charlotte Lyons) who is sitting in my urn on my kitchen counter top. Oh no Charlotte s not sitting in my urn . Maddie is & would like to wish you all a very Happy Easter! It's way too late for me I am still up & just finished wrapping my homemade treats from the Easter bunny..yes he still comes to this house. I also would like to share a a special Easter blessing someone special sent to me & pass it on to all of you.

Happy Easter, dear one and may the resurrection energy spark your life force and fill your spirit with light. Wising you all the same.
As I close this short post I think it is time for me to get up & have a glass of cold milk & some of the cookies that just came out of the oven..

An Easter tradition I try to share with my children is coloring the hard boiled eggs & making the Italian Easter cookies also known as the Cuddura. Or shall I say my Wonky Cuddura cookies. But with all the sweets & treats and pretty colors in bloom we must remember that the real treat is the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Happy Easter!

Well I did it!!! For those of you who follow my blog or read my last post.. Remember that sweet Salvaged house I fell in love with? Well my family & I drove back to Fernandina beach ( 2 1/2 hour drive today) to pick up my moms French floor screen..(That's another post.) Anyway my family thinks I am nuts as we know but there was no stopping me..so I parked the car in front of the house.. Mr Man here on the porch trying to relax on a Sunday afternoon drinking his beer & smoking his cigar I am sure after breaking his back building & working on this house all week & year.. finally sits down to get away from it all & who pulls up... that's right the wild Shabby Salvage Treasure woman...me... who just has to see this house & find out who is behind this Salvage treasure..so I introduce myself tell him how much I love his home & ask if I can take a few pictures.. he was very nice & says yea you are witnessing a murder.. I say ??? he said in the early 1800's a man by the name of Charlie was shot & killed on this porch I say oh no do you have a ghost he said at first they thought they did but no...this home has great energy.so that was my little history for starters.. no problem he was very nice. as I leave skid marks to get going on my quick self tour... I turn to my left this is what I walked through.. now keep in mind may family is in the car waiting wants to go back home.. so I was a little rushed but so happy to be here & share this with you. After posting this I thought because of my passion for Historic homes, Salvage decorating & just finding interesting places.. I will post from time to time a feature called KNOCK KNOCK... Oh dear I think the lovely lady name was Carol.. I hope so she was too sweet with her Southern accent.. I love the real deal people who have no idea how talanted they are & just mosey along in life creating their own little world made of such beauty & charm.. I hope to meet Carol ( I hope that was her name) again & get to know the special lady behind all this creativity. Wished I worked for a magazine I would feature her home. This is what is great about blogs...sharing the magic around us.. and there is so much... when she opened the door my eyes were glued to part of the inside oh if I could only see what is behind those doors...I can tell the inside would make my heart pitter patter again & again...

Remember when you were a kid traveling to new places didn't you just love riding around in the family car looking out the windows oohing & aahing at those great old houses? I did & I still do..I love finding the Historic District & going back in time in my mind thinking what was it like then, oh the families that lived in these houses, the style, the furniture, the gardens the life the stories... If these walls could talk.. I took these pictures last Sunday in Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island Fl..the first house below has been on my mind so much that I posted it on my FB I am going back this Sunday to talk more pictures to post...you will just love it.

This he entire house is made from salvaged things....the side walkway is covered with an amazing wood archway & covering,, it is just beautiful and the back has a guest house & green house made from old windows, chippy salvaged wood & a fabulous vegetable garden.. love it! It's like Green acres meets Shabby Chic. Call me crazy I plan on knocking on the door to let them know how much I love their Sweet Salvaged Castle... to be continued. xo Laura

Happiness is...The new issue of Romantic Country.. this is one of the most beautiful issues I have ever seen. I mean that! It's funny my most favorite home that I blogged about over a year ago is in the issue and guess who is in a few pages away....no not the girl from Ipanema the girl from Verbena ME!!! I received my copy yesterday & am so in love with this issue.. so grateful beyond words so please enjoy this with me. How are you out there?

Our Magical & original Mermaids Girls made exclusively FOR VERBENA.. (Thanks to Ms. Jen the Gem) have arrived more beautiful then ever I thought by adding a heart would give it that heartfelt touch to generate some sales and to try to do something to help Haiti... in my own small way I will send a percentage of all my Valentine Items proceeds to the Haiti Relief Red Cross... it is a start to a very very difficult road ahead.

O.K. so I am posting Rachael Ashwells sofa's why well after having it SNOW IN FLORIDA that's right it snowed here & my palm trees were covered with snow..my garden is gone so sad...Deal with it you say..I know where you live the temps are freezing almost every day & the snow doesn't stop... but remember when your blood thins & we have all this moisture down here this cold weather just sends big chills right through your bones .. ...all I can do is stay warm & cozy on my couch with Ellie ( my doggie) by my side... in the mean time I would love to cozy up on one of these sofas. I just love them & wanted to share some pictures... O.K. time to go back to my shabby little sofa... have a good night my friends.. stay warm oxo Laura

Better Yet I think Adam would have loved it... maybe Eve would not have eaten that apple...she would be too busy sporting her new Fig leaf scarf???? Back home from a beautiful trip visiting Family & friends in NY & NJ....I want to wish all my blogging buddies a New year Filled with only all good things, good health, love, peace, less stress, compassion, abundance, inspiration and lots of faith.... I feel this is the year we will need it most. This trip I was too busy having fun & didn't take too many pictures so I am posting some windows of inspiration, stops downtown NYC...remember...focus this year on what's really important. O.K. there are two parts to this story how do I explain something like this.. Right now I am full of so much excitement & joy I can not up load this fast enough... O.K. I will start my story.. & am sorry I never write this much but you MUST READ THIS..yesterday while working in the store I was behind my counter bending looking for something when all of a sudden when I got up a mysterious looking man was standing right in front of me he startled me.. at first I though he was homeless ( sorry if he ever reads this) he looked like a cross between A hippy from Woodstock & Santa Clause.. I said can I help you he said I am the Spoon Man where is the waif that use to work here not me I have been here for several years then he pulled out piles of handmade vintage spoons he makes into bracelets... oh my heart was beating they are beautiful perfect for my store I was thinking.. as we started to talk it turns out he is from the Midwest travels around with his wife in a bus and just sell these spoon bracelets.. He said he has been making them for Thirty years that all he does.. o.k. I can go on & on I bought a bunch for the shop thinking I could do some fun embellishments to them for my customers... One of the things I though I would love especially for was to add a watch... I do not have one & I thought it is Time for me to wear one.. the man left and that was that..anyway park that thought.. Today when I got home from the store a box was waiting on my porch...mmm I thought what is this from who.. it was from Dawn Marie.. someone I connected with on Facebook, never met face to face but am beyond honored to have connected with her...why well you tell me..not only did she make me the most incredible gifts.. I never expected any of these & was shocked when I opened up the box. scroll down to see what she did but the last gift I opened up was guess what???? The spoon bracelet with a watch on it.. better yet it was from the same man who came into my shop here in Florida I know they are his because he has special closures that only he does & when I put Two & two together Dawn Marie lives in the same State as he...Minnesota ... Now what do you think of that!!!! Please go visit Dawn Marie (artifacts & whimsy blogspot) for me send out some love to someone special... she is am Angel On Earth.. A REAL One.. This is what she did.. How do you give back to someone like her???

Hope you all are great & getting into the Holiday spirit...I have not started my Christmas shopping & have just started to put up a few decorations...there are some many beautiful blogs out there filled with amazing Holiday treasures...I am not there this year for some reason... but have put my energies into my home studio..I have finally clean up & organized it I as promised here is a very small peek at where I dream late at night, create a mess, sew, make jewelry, mosaic & whatever I am in the mood to do...I am in the process of developing a new company & taking a whole new direction for the coming year so place stay in touch as I will keep you posted...If you come by for a visit sit by the fire & have a cup of tea or Java... & I hope you do...please remember Studio hours are 11:00 p.m. -2:00 a.m.

A Sparklie Christmas Message.... Part 1

Bonjour my blogging buddies!!!! O.K. I had this idea in my head to paint a pink glitter Eiffel Tower with white Swallows flying up & around all the windows to the last window forming a peace sign..This is my first attempt to paint a window but you get the idea.. Not the straightest but in person it looks really nice. I will take pictures this week of how it turned out lots of details & more sparkles added.. I am also taking pictures of my moms shop you will love it..

transformed our interiors & changed the world of flea market shopping... I can go on & on about how much I love her style but what is more important is the woman who created all of this incredible beauty is just as beautiful as a person..I was honored to spend some time talking with her... and must say I was enamored listening to her as she gave her book presentation.. she is beautiful, down to earth, spiritual, & a little Shabby in a good way...wearing a pretty pink vintage top, faded jeans...worn out leather belt...sueded mutted out boots...crumpled big white leather bag.... I am working on organizing & cleaning out my studio I started to work on it last Sunday but then decided to go swimming instead... This picture was taken at sunset to hide my mess. I don't know what it is but I have this block to get organized...It's not one of my strong points never has been... I do wish I was a little more anal ( oops) so I figured if I posted part of my home/studio work area it would put a little pressure on me & force me to get it together.... so will call these the before shots & will post the after soon I promise...

Here's a sweet idea for a card to give to a friend... I remember my grandmother always giving hankies as gifts... This one for you nanny....

My friend loves roses & lace so I used some pretty vintage wall paper I have been saving, use any color construction paper fold in half then decorate to your hearts desire... the vintage wall paper was glued to the front, lace buttons, rhinestones...whatever you have in your stash........ when she opens it up......
Oh how sweet a vintage hankie tucked underneath a wide piece of ribbon hot glue works wonders around here..... Don't forget to wrap it in a pretty ribbon with some little flower posies to finish it off....that was my little crafty project for you... xoxo laura

Today we had our first Sewing class taught by Melody ...she is such a beautiful lady, teacher & friend.. I think this is the beginning of many classes here in the Studio.. I feel as if I am truly doing what I love.. bringing kindred spirits together to learn, create & have fun!!! THANK YOU to all my blogging friend who have come to visit... and came back..but where have I been...oh I guess you can say a little lost.. just trying to find my way.. (some things are better left alone right)... retail ahhh...trying to keep the store afloat... working hard preparing Verbena's Salon/Workshop for classes to be opened next week...filling wholesale & custom rose orders... sewing bags mostly by hand all to pay the bills ahhhh & hanging out on Facebook when I should be here with you.. well I am sorry I seem to get off track from time to time but my energies are back to keep you up to date with my world.. and I will say this I have a renewed energy & am excited with all that is happening here down South!!! FOR STARTERS IT'S FALL GIVE AWAY TIME.. ADD YOUR NAME AND A COLOR (toasted rose, shabby pink,cream, ginger snap, pistachio, lavender, bluebell, aubergene, chocolate, etc...)TO THE COMMENTS... My Mosaic Kitchen Wall...

O.K. I have been a bad blogger not uploading my pictures for etsy BUT I have finally grouted my mosaic wall that took me months of hand cutting thousands of dishes...O.K. I know I am a little loony but this is something I wanted to do for a long time and am soooo happy it is done... and so are my kids... I was going to call it Down & Grout In Ocala, but just decided to call it My Mosaic kitchen wall..inspired by my love of Birds, roses, butterflies & romantic cottage style Take a peek.. & I will get my etsy treasures posted. xooxoluara

One of my favorite treasures.. My grandmothers rose dishes...and my first piece done fiveteen years ago.. It survived my house fire.
